The month of February is forgettable

This month got off to a rough start. It has been taxing. I have to force myself to keep things to myself when sometimes, I just want to have diarrhea of the mouth. And I have to remind myself I don't want to turn this into a personal blog. So I received an email from Dana telling me to check out this site Wiggio.com. Not a new concept entirely. The site is designed to help you work in a group, and while it offers some of the features that Google does, it's a bit more intimate. I would even go so far as to say it's easier to work with. So if your in a group and you don't use anything to upload files to, post links to, give feedback to, I do recommend you try Wiggio.
Also, also also! My Delaware friend sent me this: dealnews.com. Good cheap stuff, without having to visit eBay. I also like the coupon option. I have yet to find a good site to get my coupons from, but dealnews will substitute nicely for now.
Anyway I have recently become addicted to Future of Forestry my favourite song being this one.

I have way more to post than just this..

But it will have to do for now.
I'm a columnist (sorta) for The Alligator, the newspaper at UF and here is my first column....ready? Ta-da!! You can read the original here but I posted it so that if you're really lazy you don't have to make that extra click :P

Online proposals no substitution for face–to–face romance
By Michelle Hipps, Speaking Out

LuckyD0g21: So what are your plans for this weekend?

SunshineGrl43: I’m gonna hang out with the girls and maybe go see Bride Wars.

LuckyD0g21: You think you can squeeze me in for a date?

No matter how it’s phrased or what online method is used, it’s becoming more common for guys to ask girls out online.

I can’t help but wonder why.

My friends suggested shyness, a desire to speed up the relationship or maybe just the opportunity presenting itself. Though these are all critical, I think the real core issue is rejection. That, I think, is the harsh reality that makes guys use the online method when asking girls out.

They can ask for a date and if the answer is no, well, it wasn’t said to their face, so they’ve saved their ego. How convenient.

Since when did rejection become so avoidable?

Rejection is something we should face, I believe, fairly frequently. Rejection will make you tougher and make you work for the things you really want. If there’s someone you wish to spend time with, no amount of rejection will stop you from getting what you want.

Aside from the obvious, experiencing rejection will influence how you reject others. My personal experience with rejection, though sometimes painful, has proved beneficial.

When I was placed in the position to refuse an applicant for hire, I did it gently and gave her another option, pointing her across the street to another place that was hiring. Who knows — maybe I pushed her through the door that was supposed to be opened by my rejection of her application.

Avoiding rejection and placing buffers around you to prevent rejection is, quite frankly, weak. Rejection and all the other pains of life make you stronger, so avoiding them is your undoing. Knowing this, I won’t accept a proposal for a date when asked online.

Ask me in person, or ask me over the phone and put yourself out there. Show me your courage; show me you’re willing to face rejection to get what you really want.

I’m not saying that asking a girl out in person or over the phone where you’re more vulnerable will secure your chances of scoring a date. Nope, I can’t guarantee that. However, it will make us respect you. It reminds us what you’re putting on the line to ask us out: yourself. It also reminds us ladies that we can’t just CTRL+ALT+DEL the conversation like nothing happened.

No, if we turn your offer down we need to do it gracefully and nicely because we are dealing with a person and not some vague online identity. Conversing and dealing with people in person is tough on both parties, but we haven’t reached a point in our lives where we strictly deal with people online. We still have to master face–to–face interaction with people, which means we need to practice it.

So put down your BlackBerry or iPhone and say hello to the person next to you – especially if it’s a person you’re interested in. And instead of asking them for their e–mail address, I suggest starting with, “You wanna get some coffee?”

Happy Belated New Year...I'm late...I know

You miss me? Well lucky for you the feeling is mutual.
My very last semester of undergrad school starts tomorrow. I'm excited and at the same time I'm not. I want to go to school, to you know, get this last semester over with, but at the same time...I really have no desire to get up and go. Alas, I shall, because it's what's best..or so I'm told.
My computer was infected with Adware, so I resorted to system restore, something I really didn't want to do. But it fixed my issue. It also dawned on me to renew my antivirus system..something I haven't done in quite a while. Still have yet to hear back from Eset though...
Anyway, I really have to snazz up my blog...it is so lacking...it's just been on the backburner cause quite frankly I've had alot of other important things to do...ie. work, pay bills, sleep, eat, (repeat).
But I promise you audience of one, I shall get to it later this week.
Anyway, it's 1:43, and it's already past my bedtime.
Oh! but I have to tell you my new year's resolution: to live with less. Yep, that's it. Last year it was to be a vegetarian for 6 months. This year, to be a little cheaper and more efficient with my things.
Anyway I gotta run to bed. But read this when you can...it's things you should know about the internet.

Updated?

So as I'm sure you can see (or not if you've never visited my page before)...that I have updated it. Yep, I have. So whaddya think? snazzy? too mundane? too girly? too new? too strange?
well lemme know...or not...what you think....
Me personally...I like it...I mean it's new, hip, a lil funky....rubs my funny bone...so I kinda like it. Probably not as much as my first template but oh well...it was giving me way too many problems so I have to settle for second best. And this boys and girls, is it.
I must, as almost all us bloggers must do at least once, apologize for not blogging as much as I should be blogging. It's been a trying and busy month; which you should be quite happy to hear. When I'm busy that means I have less time to plan my hostile takeover of the planet. So no news, is really good news.
I went to see UF beat USC yesterday with my cousin...he had been dying to go to a game, so I snuck him in >:)
I have season tickets, but that was my first time going to a game this season...hey I needed some dinero! But it was pretty sweet not gonna lie. The final score was 56 to 6. It was a beautiful victory. hmmm I probably should post a picture or something....okay hang ten lemme get my camera....
AHHHHHHH! You should adore me....I got out of my nice warm comfy bed and stepped out to grab my camera and in the process of doing that almost got frostbitten...it's 50 degrees in my room. chillllly. anyway....
You can see we had pretty good seats...right next to the band...and they sat for the majority of the time so we could see the plays pretty well...
you can also see the guy doing the gator chomp. Pretty savy. So that was my weekend. now I have to go clean my house and do some homework all of which I have no desire to do.

When I grow up...

Found my wedding dress, this is what I'm wearing on my "special day."

I can explain

I haven't blogged in a whole day so let me update you. I went to my grandparents house, about an hour away, to help set up some Christmas stuff, but I mostly ended up sorting silverware. It was a mess; my grandparents own 3 houses on the same land and between all the houses it was madness. But fear not; the silverware dilemma has been resolved, all silverware has been returned to it's proper location. I hadn't planned on spending the night but my grandparents "conned" me into staying. Me and my Grandmama planned on getting up and going Christmas shopping in the morning. More on that later. Anyway, have to share this picture with you because it's simply amazing.Lake house Totally made spending the night in my Grandfather's shirt worth it (it ended up coming home with me). Not that it was bad, but I felt like I was stealing his shirt. Amazing no? It's my Grandparents lake house. So we left in the morning headed east and visited my aunt at The Iron Gate a design/furniture store. It was a really nice store but the stuff was really expensive, really expensive. Like one table was $18,000. What would you do with a $18,000 table?!?! This sofa was $3,000, and one leaf piece was a couple hundred. People and their money are ridiculous. Next me and Grandmama went to Ruby Tuesday where this little kid stared at me while I ate my food kinda unnerving.Kid Staring Anyway so we went Christmas shopping and bought absolutely nothing. But we did do alot of window shopping! I even worked up the courage to try on a dress at Gadzooks but I didn't like what I was presenting so back on the rack it went. It would have been a good deal for the dress, only $34. (Unlike $18,000) But we looked around, listened to some guy playing on the piano, watched kids playing on the playground, looked at jewelry, looked at furniture...Coffee Bubblesyou things you do at a mall. It was a good way to burn the calories we just ingested after eating at Tuesday's. After not finding anything we headed back home to the lake, Rubybut not before stopping off at Publix for dinner. There, my grandmother was off shopping, while I grabbed the complimentary coffee blew bubbles in it and pushed the cart around. Grocery shopping is just so much fun. Look at that photo. Ronnie HippsI should be a professional. Anyway after, might I add much deliberation, mi Grandmama settle on salmon for dinner. Wise choice. Lets go. I swept the front porch and did a couple of other things around the house before I left. Just so I would feel like I did something. I like knowing I helped my grandparents out before leaving. Anyway, over all, full day. I got alot done with my grandmother and had a good time doing it. Hopefully if my school schedule allows I'll be able to do more of that. So thats the reason I didn't blog yesterday. I was a busy girl.

The 34th wall experience

Michelle HippsHere are some pictures from a couple of weeks ago, when me and a friend painted a wall as a happy birthday gift to another friend. It took us about 3 hours to do it all. We first tried covering the wall with spray paint...that didn't work out so well, so we went to Wal-Mart and bought actual paint and started working with that. That turned out much better. The wall, called the 34th Wall, we painted on is along a major road (surprise, surprise the road is called the 34th Street) so we got honked at alot. It was weird painting on it because it is vandalizing, but it is widely accepted and tolerated by law enforcement. Michelle HippsThe wall itself was peeling off. There were so many layers of paint on it that the layer that was peeling off was 1/4 of inch wide. There were bubble spots too where air had crept under the layer and created a pocket of air. It was still fun even if we were both too short to reach the top. :) Thats probably why it took us so long to finish it; we goofed off alot! By the time we were done we had paint all over ourselves. I got it on my shoes my pants, my sunglasses, everywhere. It was worse for my friend; she stepped into the paint. After painting the wall we had meetings to go to so we wouldn't be able to see our friend's reaction. But her boyfriend brought her there with some flowers and showed it to her. It was all very romantic. He had to be. We threatened him with his life if he wasn't. Anyway over all I was pretty pleased with the outcome and the experience. Even if I was vandalizing property.Michelle Hipps

Certified diver

After a day of being sea sick, stuffing my face with ginger cookies, and downing 3 Dramamine pills... I am now a certified diver. Was it worth it? Definitely.
